Seaman's time-book, 1876-1884.

Record of crew members, including each person's name (all are apparently men), rating (master, mate, sailor or cook), date of shipment, date of discharge and total time employed, together with notations by, and tipped-in receipts from, collectors or deputy collectors of customs in at least two ports (Bridgeton and Philadelphia). The volume, which is a partly printed book of forms, pertains to approximately 18 crews, most of which were comprised of three individuals at a time. The collectors' notations and receipts document that certain fees (chiefly hospital dues) were paid. One entry in the volume pertains to an African American who served as a cook.
